Considering Mesotherapy? Here's What You Need to Know

At our Medical Aesthetic in Bali, we apply personalized approaches, helping us to know the right methods, and products to deliver the best results.

Personalized mesotherapy at our clinic in Ubud, Bali is a doctor-led treatment that delivers a custom blend of vitamins, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, amino acids and growth factors into the skin. We choose the blend after analyzing your skin, so it targets your concern instead of using one formula for everyone.

What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment in which a doctor places small amounts of active ingredients directly into the skin. Because the ingredients go to the layer where the problem sits, they reach the target area rather than staying on the surface like a cream.

The word "personalized" matters here. At Healthy Look Aesthetic, no two blends are the same. The doctor builds each one around the person in the chair. It is used on the face, the body and the scalp.

What can mesotherapy treat?

Mesotherapy is used for six common concerns. Results vary by person and by the cause of the problem, and your doctor will tell you honestly whether it is the right option.

Melasma and pigmentation

Blends for pigmentation use ingredients chosen to even out skin tone. Melasma is a chronic condition that can return, so daily sun protection and a plan with your doctor matter as much as the sessions themselves. For stubborn cases, the doctor may suggest combining it with RF microneedling or a chemical peel.

Enlarged pores and blemishes

For visible pores and uneven texture, the blend is chosen to support skin quality and oil balance. Delivery with the Dermapen 4 also stimulates the skin to renew itself.

Aging skin

Fine lines, loss of firmness and thinning skin respond to blends with hyaluronic acid, amino acids and antioxidants. Mesotherapy improves skin quality and hydration. It does not lift or fill the way dermal filler does, and the doctor will say when a different treatment fits better.

Dry and dull skin

Skin that looks tired often lacks hydration and nutrients. A blend rich in hyaluronic acid, vitamins and antioxidants supports moisture and radiance. If you mainly want deep hydration, ask about a skin booster, which uses a simpler formula.

Hair loss and thinning

For the scalp, the blend is meant to support the follicles and the scalp environment. It works best when the cause of the thinning has been identified first. See our dedicated page on hair mesotherapy and our PRP hair treatment.

Cellulite and stretch marks

Mesotherapy can improve the look and texture of skin affected by cellulite and stretch marks. It will not remove them. For deeper fat and cellulite concerns, the doctor may advise Lysiwave as well.

How Does A Mesotherapy Session Work?

  1. Consultation and skin analysis: The doctor reviews your concern, skin type, color, laxity, pores and pigmentation, and checks that mesotherapy is right for you.
  2. Blend preparation: The doctor prepares your personal mixture from the ingredients chosen in step 1.
  3. Numbing: A numbing cream stays on the area for about 30 minutes to reduce discomfort.
  4. Treatment: The blend is delivered into the skin with fine-tipped needles, or with the Dermapen 4. In some cases we combine it with microneedling or subcision.
  5. Recovery care: We apply an intensive recovery cream to support healing.
  6. Aftercare advice: You leave with clear instructions for the following days.

Which is better, PRP or Mesotherapy?

Neither is better for everyone. The right choice depends on your goal, and the doctor decides at your consultation. PRP uses growth factors from your own blood, while mesotherapy uses a custom blend of vitamins, hyaluronic acid, amino acids and other ingredients chosen for your skin.

If you want a blend built around one specific concern, such as pigmentation or dehydration, mesotherapy is usually the more flexible option. If you prefer a treatment based on your own biology, PRP may suit you better. Some patients have both, spaced apart. The doctor sets the order and the spacing at your consultation.

How long does mesotherapy take to work?

Most people notice a first change in skin glow and hydration after the first session, while pigmentation, texture and hair thinning need a course of sessions to show clearly. Results build up over the course rather than appearing at once, and they differ by person and by concern.

The needle marks and bruising that can appear after a session fade in 3 to 7 days, and this is separate from when results show. How long results last depends on your skin, your concern and your aftercare, and there is no fixed figure. Maintenance sessions are commonly planned every 3 to 6 months.

What aftercare does mesotherapy need?

The doctor gives instructions for your blend. Typical advice after injectable skin treatments at our clinic is:

  • Avoid intense sun exposure for the first days, including sunbathing, midday swimming and the beach, and use sunscreen.
  • Use a cool compress if bruising appears.
  • For 24 hours, avoid massage or pressure on the area, intense exercise, heat and exfoliants. Skip saunas for a few days.
  • Keep the skin clean and use a gentle moisturizer.
  • Expect swelling to settle in 24 to 72 hours and bruising in 3 to 7 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Use each question below as an H3 and keep the answer's first sentence as it is. These nine are also the questions in the schema section.

What is the difference between mesotherapy and a skin booster?

Mesotherapy uses a custom blend of several ingredients chosen for your concern, while a skin booster is usually a simpler hyaluronic acid treatment for hydration. Both place the product in the skin. The doctor can tell you which fits your goal at the consultation. See our skin booster page.

Does personalized mesotherapy hurt?

Most patients find it tolerable. We apply a strong numbing cream for about 30 minutes first and use a very fine needle. Each injection may feel like an ant bite. Afterward we apply an intensive recovery cream to speed healing.

Is there any downtime after mesotherapy?

There is little downtime, but you may have needle marks and bruising for 3 to 7 days. No other serious side effects are expected. If you have an event or photo shoot, book at least days before it.

Who should not have mesotherapy?

The doctor will screen you before treatment. Mesotherapy is generally not suitable during pregnancy, with an active skin infection or open wounds in the area, or with a known allergy to an ingredient. Tell the doctor about any medicines you take, especially blood thinners.

Is there any downtime?

There may be some needle marks and bruising after the procedure which will typically recover after 3 to 7 days, but no other serious side effects are to be expected.

Can mesotherapy be combined with other treatments?

Yes, in many cases. We often pair it with microneedling or subcision in the same visit. The doctor may also suggest PRP, RF microneedling or a chemical peel as a separate step, spaced to protect your skin.

Is mesotherapy safe?

When a qualified doctor performs it in a clinic setting, the usual effects are temporary redness, swelling and bruising. The doctor chooses the ingredients for you and checks for suitability first.
